Venice does not need any presentation, as being the undisputed capital for romantic trips.
Not just for straight couples,….nay, there is an interesting gay story behind Venetian palaces.
Have you ever heard about the first gay community in Europe? Well, it was in Venice!
This unique city in the world, has always welcomed the “others”. It was founded by refugees in the fifth century A.C., and, after then, Jews, heretics, exiled people found their new homes there. Until the nineteenth century, when a real gay community set in.
Lord Byron was one of the mentors of the European high society arriving in Venice in 1816. Palazzo Mocenigo, where Lord Byron lived, wrote and loved is a sixteenth century building. It has been converted into a Seventeenth and Eighteenth Fashion Museum, which is the place where our city tour starts.
By visiting the Rialto Bridge, a must in Venice, our trail unveils both historic places of gay meetings and courtyards (‘Campi’, ‘Campielli’) where prostitution was fostered and well-accepted, in order to prevent homosexuality. The double urban soul was an undeniable aspect of the Venetian courtesan life.
The Gay Tour of Venice ends with a story you can’t miss: the Adventures of Casanova. We move to St. Marco Square to visit his places: the Palazzo Ducale, where he was kept in prison, and the Tavern, where he used to flirt with his uncountable lovers. End of the tour and free night.

Regular tours mostly all of the time don’t tell all the history and left some parts hidden as the gay history to the gay and lesbian travelers.
The Untold History Tours are inspired to give the LGBT community a view of gay and lesbian personalities from the past, stories part of our own history, that make us more aware that we’re not the first ones and surely will not be the last ones.
People talked and talk a lot about Michelangelo’s figures because he was inspired by common people and gave a particular attention in painting sensual nudes. Our gay-friendly guide using slangs and a simple language will tell you some secrets about the private life of the painter: scientists from all over the world now agree that he was homosexual and had a love story with a young poet. The proof is also that he loved painting masculine figures. After, we visit the Gallery of Tapestries and St. Peter’s Basilica.
Our original Untold History Tours are unique and this tour at the Vatican Museums will show you what one of the greatest artists of all history left behind: Michelangelo.
Price based on a group size minimum of 2 participants
Basic package quote for small groups and private tours
The tour starts with the Vatican Museums’ tour. At first sight your eyes will be caught by the modern entrance built for the Jubilee in 2000 but then –inside the museums– the Sistine Chapel will amaze you.
The ceiling was painted by Michelangelo between 1508 to 1512. The commission was originally to paint the twelve apostles, however Michelangelo demanded a free hand in the pictorial content of the scheme. He painted a series of nine pictures now worldwide famous.
However the Church had some big homosexual scandals as the one starred by the Pope Julius IIIand his young lover Innocenzo del Monte, who became Cardinal at the age of 17.
You will be able to see the paintings of St. Sebastian, a Roman soldier and Christian Saint, patron saint of homosexuality. The history says that during the Black Plague St. Sebastian was invoked against pestilence and the identification of him with homosexuality became during the Renaissance, when some artists painted him as a beautiful naked young boy tied or suffering the torments of piercing arrows.
Also, one of the biggest love stories in Rome was the one that Hadrianus, a Roman Emperor, had with Antinous. They were together until Antinous died drowned on a trip up the Nile in 130. Here you will see their sculptures and hear the story
One of the masterpieces that you will see is the Torso del Belvedere, that probably represent the body of a muscle bear guy. It constitutes a real praise of the male body, that mostly of all of the artists tented to represent in their artworks.
One of the best ways to visit an ancient city is to understand how life is and how was in the ancient days.
A tour to discover how was the Homosexuality in the Ancient Rome and what Romans thought about homosexuality in the proofs they have left to us.
In this tour you will discover how Homosexuality was conceived in the past. Our Gay Friendly guide will take you on a tour that will unveil the secrets from the past.
Most of the time, Romans wrote about love for example: Ovid (43 B.C.E.-17 C.E.) love can be inspired by “a boy or a girl” (aut puer aut … puella) and Lucretius (94-55 B.C.E.) sees no difference “whether boy or women” (sive puer … seu mulier).
Visit the most beautiful attractions of the Eternal City and find out all the details has ever showed!
Price based on a group size minimum of 2 participants
Basic package quote for small groups, private tours, lunch and/or dinner in typical restaurants, extension of the tour at the Jewish Ghetto
The tour starts at the Oppian Hill, one of the famous Seven Hills of Rome that has a beautiful view on the Colosseum.
Afterwards we will visit the Colosseum and thanks to a skip-the-line ticket we will enter without being stressed by a long wait.
You will be captured by the amazing structure and our guide will explain about the history of the Colosseum and their protagonists like the Roman Soldiers. The history tell us that these soldiers needed to show their self-discipline not only during a battle but during their lives. In fact Augustus, considered as the first Emperor, prohibited soldiers from marrying, but another kind of sexual behaviors where available for them as prostitutes of any gender, male slaves, war rape and same-sex relations.
Our guide will recount you the life inside the most famous monument in the world: fights between gladiators, also with the ships. We’ll have a little break in the nearby of The Arch of Constantine, erected by the Roman Senate to commemorate Constantine’s victory over Maxentius.
From there we reach the Palatine Hill -the most famous of the seven hills of Rome and where Romulus and Remus were found by the she-wolf. We can see the Imperial Fora and the Circus Maximus which was an ancient Roman chariot racing stadium.
Some stories about ancient homosexual personalities become to life, some Emperors were part of that hidden history.
Nero was the last Roman Emperor of the dynasty founded by Augustus. Some stories about his sexuality had been left by some writers like Suetonius that relates (“Nero”, 28-9) how Nero used to enjoy sexual relationships with men, even he married Sporus and he treated him as a wife. Nero was also related to Doryphorus, assuming the passive role with him.
Then we take a walk along The Via Sacra, the main street of ancient Rome, where we will find the Temple of Caesar, the site where he was cremated.
Julius Caesar was a Roman politician and military leader, he was known for having an affair with the king of Bithynia from which he was referred as the “Queen of Bithynia”. Also some tellings say that when he won the battle against Gauls the soldiers sang “Caesar may have conquered the Gauls, but Nicomedes conquered Caesar” and he was also known as “Every woman’s man and every man’s woman”
We’ll also see Piazza Venezia and the Pantheon During the tour.
We suggest to have lunch at the Coming Out, near the Colosseum, in the gay area of Rome.
Our Untold History Tour will take you to the Museum Hendrik Christian Andersen and our Gay-Friendly Tour Guide will let you know all the story behind all the artwork that you will be able to see.
Also, you will know about the story about Andersen and his beloved Henry James, a story that most of the time becomes forgotten.
” Would to God that I could come to Rome and put my hands on you ( oh, how lovingly I put them! )
But this, alas, is hideously impossible”
So, February 9, 1902, the American writer Henry James wrote in one of a number of letters to the sculptor Hendrik Christian Andersen. Therefore no relation with the author of fairy tales!
From Norway, Andersen chose Rome as his home and lived here in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.

At one time this castle was surrounded by endless citrus groves, real gardens covering the entire valley around Palermo.
We leave the noble Palermo to discover another side of Sicily, the sailtworks of Mozia in Trapani. A place that tells of the hard work that is still being done today. A location unmatched, with windmills that stand between the gloss of saline waters which create stunning views, especially at sunset.
